.: Families In America :. Free Genealogy & Framily Tree Information and Blog » Information About Our Project

Welcome to our new blog about you and the other people and families on www.mayrand.org.  Our older and seldom used newsletter hosted on roots web is now deleted.   The goals of this blog are:

Educate - The past is a great teacher for the living and our children  You presence in this tree means you are part of the building of Canada and the United States  Your ancestors came to the America’s under the most difficult conditions.  It takes some time to understand how your ancestors lived and worked.

You will be surprised at some of the older facts: marriage and children before a women’s sixteenth birthday. the mortality of women and infants was high, early marriages and marriages right after the death of a spouse, indentured servants working ten or more years often for the price of passage, the brutality of the French and Indian wars, destruction of families after the Arcadian deportation, the great Irish immigration caused by the deadly potato famine, prisoners deported, women and children captured, Indians abducted from their tribes.

You will marvel at the survival skills of the first arrivals to New France. You will be amazed as people from all over the world from every decade as they join our family. Our family tree has a high number of female lines a reflection of the wide body of contributed research.

The high rate of education, government and community leaders and lots of important members of the religious orders. A high number of the men could read, write. More surprising women who we were educated and could read and write. You will find lots of community leaders in your family tree in the past and in the present.

The good news is that they survived and many prospered. We and our children are here living a much better life than those who came before us.  Perhaps this will be a journey of understanding and discovery.

The association is a California Not for Profit Corporation exempt under IRC 501©(3), meaning your generous contributions of money and out of pocket research expenses are tax deductable with proper documentation. Our main source of revenue is the Goggle Adsense ads you click through. A few checks would be great helping us expand the scope and depth of information we collect. Your personal information will not be shared with anyone. We don’t send a lot of junk or fund raising requests.

Document - The information and facts you contribute will strengthen our family histories.  If you see a name without a document fact, it’s really a guess.  Verification of facts, copies of documents and photos have taken tens of thousands of hours of work by families and history keepers for more than 500 years.  Why not add your name to the list of contributors of data and documentation.

If you have a documented fact to support the entries on our web site, please share it with us. You may also upload or send to us for upload, copies of documents, Tombstones with or with GPS references, photos and more. Yes even your cell phone picture are wanted, text or email is fine if you know how.

If you are have photos or documents, articles, obituaries, prayer cards and other memorabilia, and do not want to convert them into electronic format at, you can safely send them to us, they will be safely copied or scanned and returned to you safe and sound. The resulting electronic file will be on line for all to see and if you request it can be made private for research purposes only. Contribute documented references and we will be glad to send your personal family tree in full color, print and PDF if you provide an email address.

If you see a fact that is wrong, please go on line and correct it.  If you do not want your information posted or published let us know and it will be blocked from public view.  We never publish vital information for anyone who is living.  When no data is available we assume the person is living for more than seventy five years.  You will see PRIVATE for individuals we know or think might be living.  The internet has expanded the reach of family histories, at the same time the internet has expanded the distribution of errors.  Computers have made modern genealogy possible for thousands.  All those data merges, lost hard drive, fake family histories make a well documented history even more important.  Errors happen, if one has been made let us know, we will fix it right away.

Participate – your participation is needed in three areas:

First: Tell others about our project and encourage them to communicate. This is a fine opportunity to make contact with some of those cousins and family you have lost touch with. Keep in touch, be kind to family, life is really very short. Encourage family to subscribe to our blog. You can find the “subscribe” button on the sidebar, below the search section.

Second: Update your personal and family information. Dig in the boxes and drawers and send some documented facts. If you can visit the family cemetery plots and take some pictures of the tome stones. Make sure the grounds are well taken care of; leave a few real or plastic flowers. Make sure the Veterans graves are marked.

Third: Support our family history with more research, publicity, photos perhaps a few dollars. Your medical family history can be very important to your children, collect and share that information. Most important keep in touch, forgive or at least ignore you enemies, overlook some of the strange behavior and hurtful words, some of us are a little crazy.
